It's sad what has happened to this place in the last decade. I've been going with my family to Myrtle beach for 30+ years and we've been eating at River City since they opened. River city use to have handmade, unfrozen burgers and hand cut fries. They were well proportioned so you could actually taste the flavor of the meat. It was the best burger on the beach. However, since they were bought out by the chain that owns them now, the quality and standards have dropped off every year. This year we realized they finally ruined the famous and amazing fries that we loved, and switched to crappy frozen fries. They were literally store bought frozen fires with no taste. They had already moved their burgers over to thick, meatloaf-like frozen patties, a few years back, but they were decent enough to continue with the hand cut fair like fries. They weren't terrible, but they weren't great. I guess cutting costs is more important to the owners of River City than keeping a beach tradition alive and well. I'm sure most tourists here won't know the difference, and will just want something warm to eat, but the difference is there. It's sad to me that this bit of history is already gone. This will be the last time we come to River City and we'll take our business to Burkey's from now on.

Perfect casual lunch spot. Good turkey burgers and onion rings! Not your typical burgers, unusual combinations but so good. Great service! She kept my tea full the entire time.

If your hungry for a good hand packed burger and a beer without all the classy decor. This is your place. I had the Black and Blue burger, it was juicy and the bun was fresh. Service was awesome and food was served relatively quick. The only thing is you may have to wait to get in, but you can enjoy fresh shelled, roasted peanuts and something from the small bar. I was on vacation and was in no hurry.
(5)Tiffany W.
HORRIBLE SERVICE. We had to get our own refills three times since the waitress was no where to be seen. Do not go here! Food was okay, but nothing to rave about. Long wait to get in and a long wait for food. Go to dirty dons next door instead!

Yum. The wait staff at this facility are some of the friendliest most helpful assets this restaurant has. The appetizers pretty good. Hamburgers okay if you are looking for a hamburger . But what makes this place great are the waitresses and their fantastic service.
(3)Jarrod I.
Cool decor. Pastel colors, license plates from everywhere, your allowed to write on the tables, chairs, walls. Service was great. Chili cheese fries and handmade onion rings are great. Burgers not so good. I wasn't impressed. Not seasoned well and the bun needs work. I had the nacho crunch burger although it was cooked to my liking it lacked the flavors. Could barely taste anything. The texture was good with the doritos but that was it. My wife had the rueben. She liked it. My advice. ... it's a good dice bar. Stick to an app cheese fries and a plain burger or just app and move on Food 2.5 Atmosphere 4 Hospitality 5 Total 3.5

Super casual, relaxed and easy going atmosphere.. There is outdoor, covered seating in addition to indoor seating. There is no AC inside so be weary if that matters to you. The booths and tables are covered in writing from past guests and the walls are completely covered with license plates from all over the US and Canada. Service was great - our server was knowledgable and so friendly. Even have us a tip on where to find a fun bar later that night. Food was delicious too! We had the onion rings to start and a Texas BBQ burger, a Turkey Burger with cheddar and bbq, and the RCC Salad with grilled chicken. The burgers and chicken were fresh, not frozen, and we're cooked and seasoned perfectly. The onions rings were huge! Super crispy on the outside and soft onion on the inside with your typical petal sauce on the side. In all, would definitely go here again for burgers and onion rings an the great service!

When your tagline is "Peanuts. Burgers. Beer.", do you really need a review to convince people to eat here? While on vacation in Myrtle Beach, we avoided River City the first couple of days. It looked a little seedy, wallpapered with license plates and graffiti. Don't let the looks fool you -- this place is an absolute treasure! First off, free salted in the shell peanuts -- all you can eat. Next, you have the very extensive burger and sandwich menu. It's so extensive that you will be torn trying to choose which one looks the most delicious. In fact, it all looks so good that you may find yourself coming back daily (we've been back 3 times in as many days). Every burger and sandwich my family has ordered had been great. A grouper Reuben -- who would have thought it? But it was great. The burgers are among the best I've ever had at a restaurant. They are all topped so generously that after a few bites, you may break down and use a fork and knife. The service on each of our visits was nothing short of stellar. All three waitresses were so friendly and attentive. A couple of tips: 1) If you're debating between cheese fries and gravy fries, just ask for cheese fries with gravy. Heaven! 2) If you attempt to eat the Kitchen Sink or OMG Burger, you'd better have an elastic waistband and no plans for the rest of the day. I had the Kitchen Sink and it was like a Man v Food challenge.

If you have a hankering for burgers this is your place! I was so excited they had a vegan burger option that was rather tasty! Listen everything here is fried. Everything. Battered and fried Side galore. It seems like the kitchen sink burger ( go find someone else's pics ) is popular and a heart attack on a plate but to each his own. I had the vegan "burger" with fried mushrooms and onions. Yummy and that was plenty. Dan had the mahi "burger" and really enjoyed it. I think we were the exception to the dinning rule... Fries are very popular... The onion rings are as big as donuts. Your thighs said, maybe share one! The ambiance is fun. Peanuts, license plates and graffiti forever. We'd be back and be sure to park a good walk away... To burn the calories!
(4)Donna B.
Good house burger just not as good as i anticipated. They were big but kind of bland even with all the trimmings.
(3)Cris A.
The Food was amazing and the burgers and onions rings were huge. We will definitely be coming back. Word of advice, if you and your significant other don't eat a lot I suggest getting a plate and sharing.
(5)Michael S.
Burgers were banging, onion rings were huge and greasy delicious. I was stuffed just splitting a plate of onion rings with my girl and the burger was more than enough to push me over the edge. Good prices, better than average food, crappy tap water.
(5)Amy B.
From the reviews I was expecting a better burger... Sure you get a few different choices of what you want on your burger but that isn't all there is to great burger. Don't get me wrong - the burger was fresh and better than your run of the mill burger joints but not 4/5 star worthy. It was lacking the flavor that comes from a great grilled burger. The fries even though freshly cut were cold and tasted like they were cooked in old oil.
(3)Amy L.
Love this place. The best turkey burger around! So many different combinations! Great onion rings too. Thick and delicious! A must go if your in Myrtle Beach!
(5)Tyler S.
If only this restaurant wasn't only in Myrtle Beach! :( The food here is AMAZING! Best place in the United States to grab a burger. Was a little skeptical about it the first time because of the atmosphere and sharpie and license plates all over the wall but thats what makes this place interesting. Waiters/waitresses are so full of energy and extremely friendly. If you are ever in Myrtle Beach, SC, you HAVE to try this place.
(5)Michael B.
I was soooo! looking forward to a visit to River City Cafe. Been coming here this time of year for he past 15 + yrs and RCC has been one of my favorites. The burger was great as usual and the wait staff was friendly & attentive. Not once did I hear "No Problem" from any of the staff. Bravo! For the training. However, the French fries were a major downer for me this time! Their fresh cut fries were imposter look-a-likes right out of a frozen bag. This may not be a big deal to many of you, but the right out of the fryer, hand cut Boardwalk French fries can make or break a burger meal. My meal was disappointing this trip! The menu still touts hand cut fresh French fries. When I asked about this, Jen could only reply, we've had issues with our fries.
(3)Raven M.
This is my first review ever so that tells you how good it really is. I tried the Nacho Crunch Burger. One of the best burgers I've had in my life. We only have one more day here and we're going back tomorrow. Don't pass this place up. A must try for sure!
(5)Brittany B.
Best burgers ever! Jeremy was am incredible server and he made the experience awesome for our group! The kitchen sink burger is to die for!
(5)Chris A.
Food here was fantastic. It just became our must go to place in Myrtle Beach for future trips.
(5)Vic R.
Great place. Worth the wait. Burgers are as good as any I ever ate. Food for 2 with 1 drink each is under $40. Not fancy but sure to please.
(5)Bonnie D.
Being from the Philadelphia are I have had the opportunity to taste some of the best burgers you will find anywhere. Having tried the burgers at River City, I can honestly say their burgers rank right at the top of my list. Their entire menu selection is awesome and they do burgers several different ways. The options are endless. Do not miss out on this opportunity. Plus their service is outstanding!
(5)Chris L.
If you are looking for a good burger, great fries, and a place where you can throw peanut shells on the floor, this is the place for you. It is a great little dive type burger joint. They have a nice patio and you can walk half a block up from the beach and eat right in your suit.
(4)Felecia H.
Excellent food! Bathrooms was dirty. And huge cockroaches outside but inside was very welcoming and food was grreatt
(4)Shannon B.
There was a 40 minute wait so we almost left but ended up at the small bar inside. I'm glad we stayed since this turned out to be our best meal all week. Started with fried zucchini that was amazing then the best burger to follow. I had the palmetto and my boyfriend got the continental and both were awesome. Staff was friendly and attentive as well. We'll definitely be back.
(4)Tiffany H.
Yummy burgers! Awesome sweet tea! Funky atmosphere. Fun for families, kids, groups, etc.
(5)Nancy M.
Fun place, great atmosphere, yummy burgers. My kids had fun searching the walls for Michigan license plates. I had the nacho crunch turkey burger and it was to die for. Our server was very attentive, upbeat and polite. I would definitely eat here again.
(5)Neil K.
It's a bit of a dive and nothing special. They say their hamburgers are world famous but were actually nothing special. Lots of unusual toppings on the burgers, so maybe this is what people like. Very slow service - more than an hour between ordering and getting the food. Also was told there was a 45 min wait for table, but it came quicker. Overall ok.
(3)Lawson R.
River City Café was the best restaurant during my trip to Myrtle Beach. The atmosphere is laid back and the walls are laden with various license plates and writing from previous customers. This may turn people away who are looking for a "fancier" restaurant, but for my group it only added to the experience. The menu has many different items to choose from and is very flexible. I ordered the Nacho Crunch Burger because it looked unique. This was debatably the best burger I have ever had. I was highly pleased with how the burger was cooked and the amount of toppings that were on it.
(5)Lisa A.
BEST burger my husband ever had ! Try the continental burger. Great service and excellent food quality. Don't let the interior looks fool you-( it's VERY casual)-it's really awesome! HIGHLY recommend!
(5)Jessica C.
I was somewhat disappointed with this place after going because of all the great reviews. We expected a wait, which there was, but did like that they took drink orders while we waited. When we were finally seated, we did not get service for at least 15 minutes. We ordered some adult beverage mixed drinks, which were tasty, but lacking in the adult portion. Do not recommend the cheese fries as appetizers...but in their defense, it's exactly that...some fries with a ton of cheese on it. And that's it. They do have a pretty good selection of burgers and other food. We ordered the knife and fork burger and the southwestern burger. Ehh. Typical burgers...nothing special. The onion rings ARE delicious however!! Don't know what all the hype is about. I can make better burgers on my own grill. Wanted to like this place but it fell short.
(3)Jessica M.
Best burgers ever! The menu is so unique, with burger creations I would have never even imagined! I got the nacho crunch burger, and it was amazing! I was a little iffy about ordering it, I mean, it's Doritos and guac on a burger... But I'm so glad I ordered it! I will ABSOLUTELY go back next time I'm in Myrtle Beach! Yum!
(5)Eddie M.
Great selection of burgers! Service is outstanding and friendly. Great local restaurant right up from the beach! Great decor! How many liscense plates are there?
(5)Cynthia H.
A diamond in the rough. Great food and service. The restaurant is in an old house /building that has been whimsically decorated. Huge burgers! Chili cheese fries were awesome. Coming back'
(4)CY A.
Burgers were great but waiter seemed in a ho-hum mood. Grouper fingers were tasty but too much breading and over fried. Liked the casual peanut shells on the floor environment. Have wheat buns which was a plus.
(4)John S.
This is an excellent place to grab a fantastic burger in a casual dining environment. Had the River City Cafe burger and
(5)Gary D.
Yes it is a dive that isn't all that clean, which is fine by me - after all what do you expect just steps from the beach here on the 21st ave location. Burgers were good and unique blends. Not even a packed house today and the kitchen was very very very slow but the cole slaw was soggy and from a can which is surprising considering the hand crafted nature of everything else. Service was acceptable, not slacking, but not great either. This is a typical tourist trap type restaurant, it has it's unique flavors and combos. and menu items, but rests on the fact that there really isn't any place on the beach like the 21st ave location with all the scribbles, carvings etc, so they just kinda quit trying to excel at service or quality since the location, divey-ness, etc sells itself.
(3)Meredith B.
Stopped in here after our first choice of restaurants was completely packed. Which ended up being a really good thing. We chose to sit out on deck since it was beautiful out. They lined the picnic tables with brown paper and give you crayons. My husband, being a big kid had a blast with that. Made any wait time for food entertaining. They also gave you shell on peanuts to snack on while waiting. I ordered the Mahi finger dinner which were AMAZING! Which is something coming from me because I don't usually eat seafood fried. My husband got the burger with shrimp on it and said it was one of the best burgers he had ever had. I will definitely go there again.
(5)Randy B.
Waited for 30 min no service. Went next door to soho. Go there.
(1)Kevin K.
Excellent black n bleu burger. Good cheese fries. The atmosphere is perfectly casual for a beach lunch.

I'm a fairly frequent visitor of MB enough to know what I like to eat and where I like to go. But when the duties of securing accommodations is left to someone else, my friends and I found out being at the mercy of what's nearby, so that nobody had to forfeit their ambrosia I mean gold I mean parking spaces. So with that, we walked right across the street from Breakers, and rain started to fall. Without much thinking, we chose River City Cafe as the place to have our meal. Nacho. Crunch. Burger. holy crap Stuffed full of guacamole and Doritos and a bunch of other inferior filler, it was a creative and tasty spin on just another burger. The size was generous, and most certainly more than what I really needed, but like a pig, I still ate it all. The onion rings are loosely plural, since they only really gave me two onion rings, but my god were they gigantic. It's like they took half of an onion, and sliced that into two, before battering and frying them. They're absurdly large, but they're still good. As for the rest of the experience, I enjoyed the endless peanuts and the carnal release of the inner slob by being completely allowed to discard all shells and skins all around me, and my eyes couldn't help but follow the girl I wished were our waitress but wasn't throughout the entire time there. By the time the meal was over and the check settled, the rain was all but finished, and I was adequately stuffed, and working on a gentle buzz. Couldn't ask for a more adequate experience.
(4)Aly C.
Great food. Terrible service. Had to flag down a random waitress to get ketchup after our food arrived. Watched our waitress show pictures from her cell phone to a couple at another table for fifteen minutes. She never apologized. It was not busy either.
(3)Mike M.
Ah, river city cafe... This place was a perennial favorite of mine when I was a kid. What better place to bring the family for night of burgers and onion rings? I still remember the first time I ever ate here, probably 12 years ago or so. Sadly, the burgers are not as memorable this time around, but its still a decent, inexpensive place to go. River city is a dive for sure, but no location more so then 21st ave. It's dark, and every square inch of flat surface has been drawn on, carved into or covered with a license plate. There's paper towels at the table and food arrives in a small basket. In short, come as you are. Tonight we kept it simple and ordered a few burgers and some onion rings. The wife as usual, strays from the pack and ordered a shrimp po-boy. I should've called her out right there, but decided it would be more amusing to see if she would actually eat it. Well, the joke was on me - at least she enjoyed her meal. The menu says "our burgers are fresh, never frozen". That means I can get mine medium-rare, right? Long story short, river city burgers are cooked to medium well, per the waitress. However, per the same waitress, she said she would see about getting my "medium" request honored. She even winked, so I thought it was a done deal. Sadly, it was not. At this point, you guys already know how I feel about overcooked burgers. How credible do you think that "never frozen" claim is? I had a Texas bbq burger and a continental burger, which has a fried egg on top (even the egg was cooked all the way through). Both burgers wore the right accessories, but both were dry and grey inside, which truly breaks my heart. Same deal with other people in our group. We finished our food anyway, but we all agreed that this is not the river city we remembered. Meanwhile, wife was enjoying her shrimp po-boy, and while I'm pretty sure she has no idea what a po-boy is or is supposed to taste like, she likes shrimp and that's all that mattered. I really wanted to brag about this place to you guys, but sadly, river city just didn't deliver for me. Maybe you will have better luck, or can overlook their medium-well policy. For me, the quest continues to find that ideal burger...
(3)Carlos C.
Service is hit n miss depending on who you get. Our server had to be "warmed up" to us before she kept up with our order and brought refills. The burgers are awesome in comparison to the price!! The California Burger: superb! The Cheesesteak Burger: almost as good as a Philly cheesesteak. The Swiss and mushroom burger was also very good. Go for the taste! And 10% discount floating around everywhere.
(4)Ric C.
Great burgers, good service in the 2 locations we hit this weekend at MB! Definitely recommend River City Cafe!
(5)Bosslady F.
Awful, awful, awful!! Burger patties have no seasoning to them. The bread is burned!! My husband's bread was burned so bad he thought it was bacon on the burger. LOL We waited a hour for our food server came apologized several times saying kitchen was behind. Um not my problem!! This was are first time coming there I said this better be worth the wait it was not AT ALL!! it's dirty in there I didn't even want to sit in the seats. Peanuts all over the floor. If you crave a good seasoned burger that is juicy and not burned DON'T GO THERE. To top it all off my order came out wrong after waiting for a hour. I gave it back and asked for check no way I want to get anything else. I don't see how this place passed health inspection. Get this if you order a alcohol drink it comes to you in a plastic dollar general cup.
(1)Megan R.
Originally planned on going to dirty don's oyster bar but because of the smoke changed our minds. Not a bad little burger joint. Had a good selection of different types of burgers and the price was right. I also liked the variety of different fries you could get. Waitress was great at entertaining the kids. Their peanuts were really good too. Only gripe I have is the buns weren't toasted or warmed. Note for beer drinkers bottles only no draft.
(4)Brandon S.
After driving 10 hours from pa we decided on something quick and easy. I seen alot of yelps said best burger around. While I don't know if it's true. But they were awesome. First love the decor. Old license plates and paper for ur table cloth. Peanuts all over the floor and wooden chairs. Menu was very well detailed and the staff helped us with our first time selection. I got the omg burger. Yes it's about 14 bucks but ull never regret it. The coleslaw was some of the best. We also got a cheese burger with assorted stuff and everything was correct and great. Would recommend this to everyone
(5)Kristen A.
The burgers are majorly overrated. They sound amazing on the menu and the toppings are good but the meat itself has no flavor. I would give the burgers a lower score BUT I would give their buffalo chicken sandwich a 5!! The chicken was fried and dipped in buffalo sauce with blue cheese and lettuce and tomato on a wheat bun. Yum! It was such good juicy chicken. The atmosphere was fun. You can write with sharpie on anything there. Walls, tables, etc.
(3)Stephen S.
The main reason you come here is the burgers--and they have twenty or so different kinds, all of which looked good. I have a feeling there are no bad choices here. The beef is fresh and you can tell it's made on the spot. Five Alarm Burger has jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, hot sauce, and chipotle mayo. Every bite was delicious. I got the basket with fries and slaw. Fries are very good--you can tell they are fresh and they're very tasty. Slaw was sweet, long-cut, wet but not too wet, with vinegar--it wasn't to my taste, but it's fresh and I'm sure there are plenty who will find it right up their alley. Wife said her bacon cheeseburger was really good. She stole fries off my plate and said they were good. Kids menu hamburger was almost adult-sized. Little one said the pickles were 'spicy' (they had pepper on them and she's a bit more sensitive to spices than others), but she liked it. Our salad-eater was not disappointed either. The salad was good, but she said the grilled chicken was dry and the croutons were too soft. It's a burger place, so I guess they did their best. All-in-all, we were very happy and I'd love to try another one of their burgers sometime.
(5)Jeremy H.
Great little dive to have a hamburger and a beer. The wait staff is great and attentive.
(4)Heather L.
Great place to eat! I like the atmosphere there. The burgers were really good. The only problem I had with mine was that the cheese was overdone, hard and crunchy from being on the grill too long. I got the grilled onion burger with sautéed mushrooms added and the flavor was great. The onion rings are huge! Everyone was nice there, just kind of crowded and busy...BUT I'd rather a place be busy. That's how you can tell that a place has really good food and service!
(5)Benjamin M.
Yelp always points me in the right direction when I'm somewhere new and looking for some good food and drink. River City Cafe was another winner in Myrtle Beach. I was ravenous after completing a half marathon in the morning followed by a nap at the hotel. Fortunately, RCC (motto: It's all about the Burger!) was only a couple of blocks away and I walked in ready to dive into one. I was lucky to get the end seat of their small bar and started pondering the menu of 24 different burger options while munching on their complimentary, shelled peanuts. The "Nacho Crunch Burger" got a lot of props on the Yelp app and from the way it was described, topped with guacamole, Doritos, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and spicy chipotle mayo, I was certainly game to give it a try. What I didn't expect when the bartender placed it in front of me was how large it was. Yeah, it was a definite two-hander, stretch-your-mouth-to-take-a bite monster...as were the huge opinion rings on the side. Pairing it with a couple of Sam Adams Cold Snaps and I was in heaven when it was all said and done. Great food, personable service and a fun, cool atmosphere (with the numerous license plates all over the wall) prove why people will gladly wait for a table, inside or out. 4.5 Stars.
(4)Francesco R.
Best burger I've ever eaten. Waitress was so great and refilled drinks constantly. Second time vacationing in the area and second time here. YUM.
(5)Noell C.
A hidden gem! Small and not really anything special on the outside but the staff is great! Super friendly, know the area and quick to serve customers. I was told to try the Reuben since I wasn't in the mood for a burger. I got it with the onion rings. I was thoroughly pleased. Right amount of meat and dressing. Onion rings were huge!! Ordered a drink and amazed that it was pretty strong and only $5. I would definitely go back.
(5)Angelia B.
This place was amaze balls! Simple but delicious! The burgers, onion rings (dipping sauce) & sweet potato fries were all yummy!
(5)Brittany S.
The burgers were great! We had the fries and onion rings for sides. Fries were good. Onion rings were not very good even tho they looks amazing. Would go there again but wouldn't get onion rings again. Chili is good, nice and spicy. Place was packed when we got there so had to wait a few mins before we got seated but once seated service was great.
(4)Hope M.
phenomenal!!!! I come here every time I'm in Myrtle & im never let down! The chicken tenders are my favorite and the burgers are awesome too. A must try..
(5)Peter N.
This is a nice restaurant, it's a dive that is really great. They have fresh cut fries and actually it is a burger joint. They have all creations of burgers that you can think of. I got the OMG burger platter. It is egg, bacon, mayo, lettuce, beef patties and onions rings on top. It is really good, you can crush some peanuts as you await for the food. They have good cocktails and their margarita's are very good. Definitely going back to this place.
(4)Alex R.
You cannot come to Myrtle Beach without visiting the River City Cafe. Now the venue isn't exactly the most crisp, clean, or pretty but honestly...the food is so good it doesn't matter. It's a small building and laid back does not begin to describe the atmosphere. There are scratches and etchings on the walls where people that have been there have written their names, licenses plates everywhere, and several TVs. The food is awesome. Now, it's a greasy spoon kind of place with flair. The cheese fries are cheese fries; nothing special is done to them or sets them apart...they are just that dang good. I was on vacation. With that said I was not "watching" what I was eating. So...I had a bacon cheese burger with a fried egg on top...with grilled cheese sandwiches...instead of buns. That's right...GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES INSTEAD OF BUNS! It was amazing. The meet was perfectly cooked, the bacon was perfectly cooked, and the egg was a nice touch. Let me talk about the service. Our server's name was Stephanie. She was not only welcoming, prompt, professional, and engaging...she had the most calming and friendly personality. Like I've said before...service can make average food taste better and great food taste bad. She was perfect and we were happy. Let's put it this way...we had a $32 bill and we left her a $25 tip. We will be back every year and maybe more than one time a year. :)
(5)Adam P.
We came here 3 times during our honeymoon. Delicious burgers! Friendly staff and a really fun atmosphere. Best place to eat near Breakers!!!
(5)Andrew C.
I got the California pizza burger. Literally the best burger I have ever eaten. The fries are awesome too. The atmosphere is interesting. I really enjoyed the place.
(5)Viangie G.
Wow! Wow! Wow! Don't let the outside and writing on the walls intimidate you, as this place is nothing else than amazing. Once again, Yelp took me on the right direction. Even before going on our trip I had this place marked and decided to go on our first day. Of course, trying not to gain too much weight right away, I decided to have the chicken sandwich and I wasn't disappointed. The flavor was great and their bread is always fresh. My husband had the cheeseburger with fries and the cole slaw was delicious too. I told the lady that if I fitted on my clothes by the end of the week I was going to come back for the Crunch Burger!!!! Guess what I did it. Next time forget the diet because I'm coming back for this baby. Great place, friendly staff and fresh food. Prices are also good.
(5)Tahnee H.
By far the best burgers my friends and I have ever tasted...and we have had many burgers :) Super fresh and perfectly cooked. The slaw is great and I loved the sweet potato waffle fries (I wish more places had that). You can keep your cup of water, which comes in handy near the beach. And staff is super friendly.
(5)Rachel W.
I love River City so much! This was our second trip, and certainly will not be our last. The first visit, I had the Reuben burger with fries, and it blew me away. I can't remember my family's orders, but I know we left satisfied and richer by a few more plastic cups (every drink is served with a souvenir cup, we always take them home for the kids to drink out of, because hey! Free cups!). This time, I took a picture and made a promise that I would post a review before I forgot. We went on a Thursday night, and it was jam packed. We waited for maybe 20 minutes and then ended up being seated outside on the porch by a sweet kid hosting who looked no older than 16. We say for a while until our server came by and just ate a whole bunch of peanuts. My 13 year old commented that all of the peanut shells make for some pretty interesting "mulch". We all ordered and the food took a bit to come out, maybe another 20 minutes. Husband got a regular burger no cheese, 13 yr old son got the California pizza burger (fried mozz and pepperoni with marinara),his friend got the Texas BBQ burger with sauce and bacon, 10 yr old daughter got a corndog and 5 yr old got a kids burger. I got the RC burger, which has chili and mushrooms and all sort of other delicious things on it. Everyone in our party ate every bite. My only complaint is that I subbed in onion rings and they only gave me two, but they were huge and tasty. Wish I got the fries though, because they never disappoint. Best part of the meal was that it only cost $58 for all 6 of us to leave satiated, and the ambience was fun and lively. It is easily one of our favorite places in MB and the best burger place we've been to. My son's friend is still talking about this place a week later! He said it was the best meal of his trip. Go there, expect a wait, expect peanut shells, and order a specialty burger. You will not be disappointed! There are always coupons in the books you can find literally everywhere, so if you grab one you can save a few bucks too!

Just went back for the Myrtle Beach for the first time in 10 years and revisiting this spot was our first stop. Was glad to see that it was still on the forward trend of dining evolution. I opted fora new Menu item the Cowboy Burger with Fresh Fried Pork Rinds and it was over the top excellent. The fried pickles are also great and the ranch itself deserves a damn Oscar for best supporting compliment, I could pour it over ice and drink it with a straw, Most importly is this location, the one on 21st Ave has teh best vibe as they have grown to several locations. Your welsome, enjoy

This is a great restaurant if you want quality but fun food (as well as greasy!). We ate here for lunch while on vacation after reading reviews online. I got the nacho crunch cheeseburger and my boyfriend got the Texas BBQ cheeseburger. We split the cheese fries with bacon as an appetizer and both left satisfied and very full! Definitely recommend if you're in the area!

The best place we went to while in Myrtle Beach! Had amazing burgers, with options such as: Mac n Cheese burger, Pizza burger, Hawaiian Burger, and many more! The service was very friendly and made you feel at home! Plus you can sign your name on your state's license plate.

The best and most-filling meal we've had our entire trip, and very affordable - actually cheap for the amount of food we got! Our server, Ray, was very attentive - out water glasses were never less than 1/2 full. Food was great! Coleslaw was amazing - left me craving more...and I don't care for coleslaw! We had grouper fingers for appetizers and each of us tried a different burger and no one was disappointed!

Believe the hype ! This place is all that they say it is. Unbelievable burgers. My wife and 10yo who rarely opt for beef.... Couldn't stop commenting how good their food was. Friends staff. Low key atmosphere. Great prices. What's not to like ? Don't miss out on this place. One suggestion... Opt for an inside seat if El Sol is on the rise as our picnic brunch quickly became scorching. (To her credit Erika offered is a once inside to escape the rays) Went for a second time carry out back to the resort. Easily as impressive as the first time ! Thanks River City for keeping consistent.

Overrated! Maybe because it was Sunday but the service was bad. It took too long to get two burgers on our table. I ordered the Nacho Burger and the "chef" didn't put any guac on it. When I told the waitress, the manager deducted $ 1.86 for the lack of guac. Mediocre burgers. Tourist trap.

I was only in myrtle beach for four night, I went here twice! Amazing burgers and surprisingly vegetarian friendly, you could get any burger substituted for a veggie burger and the veggie burgers were amazing!

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Heard quite a few raves about this place. So we decided to try it out. It took us about an hour to get seated. The waitress and other staff were about the highlight of this place. They were all so very friendly. I had their bacon cheeseburger, it was good for a burger. But it was not something that I'll look back on as an amazing burger that I can't wait to have again. Fries weren't anything tasty, just fries.

We visited river city for burgers last night. Last time we were there was two years ago. Server was slow. Burgers were cold. The fries were cold. Though we asked for hot ones, the replacements were cold as well. One of my grown kids said she would have to be very, very hungry and desperate to go there again. Next time we go to Burgerfi.

Great place! The food is excellent, great atmosphere, staff is friendly. The best thing on the menu is the grouper Reuben, hands down!

Creative and amazing burgers. Small place with limited seating. The walls are all signed and graffiti. Beautiful. If you like a place with character. Food is amAzing. Don't miss it.

Nothing fancy and doesn't pretend to be - just a straight forward great burger joint. Seating inside and out. Looks like an aged roadside shack (intentionally, not due to neglect). Kids can write on the walls (and apparently many of the adults do to ...) the burgers are many and creative. One of us had a simple cheddar burger, another had the blue cheese, I had the Philly with peppers and onions and the most interesting one was my wife with the nacho Doritos burger. It's pretty spicy because of the real jalepenos but she really liked it. The actual Doritos on the burger was certainly a unique twist! The drinks are simple and as others have written, being able to toss the peanut shells on the floor is a hit with the kids. The wait can be up to one hour to get seated and then it can take another half-hour for your food to arrive, so do NOT go if you're in a hurry or starving. We put our name on the list and then walked the strip for a half-hour and it worked out just right. This is a simple, casual place to kill an evening and get a good meal without rushing or expecting "fine dining." So long as you go with the proper mindset you shouldn't be disappointed.

Great burgers in a casual setting, a variety of items on the menu (many for less than $10), adjacent parking, great service, AND my kids can draw on the tables and toss peanut shells on the floor?! Yes please. It's a "dive", yes, but in a casual, fun, laid back kind of way, not in a dirty, toothless old dude sitting at the bar eyeing down the teenagers kind of way. You could come in with sand on your feet from the beach and saltwater in your hair and not feel out of place. It's comfortable. There's graffiti on every surface, and we had fun looking at the license plates and he kitch-y signs and knickknacks all over the place and drawing on the butcher paper covered table. They had high chairs, and there were a few other families with children when we were there. The menu wasn't so select that you felt like you were limited to typical bar food (it is a bar, but the menu definitely did not feel like and afterthought), but it wasn't so large that it took you 30 minutes to figure out what to order. There was a children's menu with a handful of typical kid far selections. My husband and son got the Texas BBQ Burger (one got fries, one got onion rings), our toddler got a hot dog kid's meal with applesauce as a side (prepackaged applesauce), and I got a blackened/creole chicken salad with bacon and avocado ranch dressing. My husband and son both said that their (enormous) burgers were among the best they've ever had. My husband's comment was "It's better than the one's I make", and that's saying something, since he makes a pretty mean burger himself. The onion rings were really just two HUGE rings. The fries were perfectly crispy and salty. My salad was delicious, the bacon was perfectly crispy and crumbled. They make their dressings from scratch, and the avocado ranch, recommended by our server, was excellent. The prices were ridiculously inexpensive for the food that we received. YUM. Speaking of our server, we had Betty. She was fantastic. Very attentive, but not overly intrusive to where we felt like we had to rush. She kept our cups full and our meals arrived quickly. The chatted with us and offered us suggestions for where to get breakfast in the morning, and she was just a very friendly, helpful woman. The told us that the 21st Ave location is the original location, but there are also several other locations, and that they are now owned by a local franchise group. I'd still consider it local, given that information, and local places always get bonus points for me. When we were getting ready to leave, Betty filled topped off our sodas and gave us a to go lid (drinks come in plastic "souvenir" cups), which I thought was really nice of her. We went at 6pm in the off season, there wasn't a wait, and we were out in about an hour. Perfection when dealing with a toddler at "the witching hour". My guess is that this place draws a bigger crowd in the peak season, and from the looks of the people dining at the same time as us, they have a following of locals as well. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and you could easily walk here from Ocean Ave, have a few drinks, and walk back to your hotel. Or, if you want to drive, there's a parking lot, which makes it even better. We loved River City Cafe. We'd happily go back.

This was the most horrible place I have eaten since I've been on vacation. They have horrible service. They couldn't get anyones orfer right. Had to find someone to refill drinks. Had to find someone to tell them we were ready to pay. Took forever to get any food. They food was not worth what we paid for it. Twenty minutes after paying we finally got change back. I woulkd not recommend this place to anyone. It is awful!!! We will never come here again.

Very good bugers and fries, actually one of the better I've had. Prices are reasonable for this area. Service was okay, not great, not bad. If you are looking for a good burger this is the place to go in MB.

The burgers are really good but the place is dirty and not appropriate for young kids who can read. The filthy words written in the bathroom were hard to explain to a 7 year old. People should be prepared it is a great bar and burger joint but NOT a family restaurant.

Good place to eat for cheap good burgers. Peanuts on the floor
